A Private Investigator

One or more characters are a private investigator and are hired by either another one of the characters or by an independent character to investigate the disappearance of a close relative.  The relative is a background coder for a public website (http://www.gennews.uni) and for the past couple of weeks had been acting strangely, canceling their Conduit credits, closing their World Wide Wealth accounts, blocking mind-mails, and withdrawing from the world until they suddenly vanished entirely.

The Interstellar Police refuse to open a case, saying that the person's recent activity point to the fact that s/he probably just left on a private trip somewhere and will return given time.  They also point out that he has only been logged out of MyMegaSpace.uni for a week and, officially, they can only act when it is over a month or more.

The client obviously disagrees and, in fact, believes that the cryptic email sent to them just prior to the disappearance might hold the key (although...they only bring this up later...).

The game starts at the cyber-mansion of the missing relative on the fringe Merchant System Planet, Boreganum, upon the skyscrapers that overlook the desert planet.  The characters entering the penthouse disturb an unidentified intruder, who reacts by casting cyber-smoke with short-term memory loss effects at the groups Conduits (roll for its effects) and leaps through an open window of the penthouse more than a hundred miles from the planet surface.
